Description
Registered Nurse - Operating Room (RN-OR)
Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel Nursing
Job Summary
Provide nursing care for patients in the Operating Room following established standards and the South Carolina Nurse Practice Act. Apply professional nursing theory and practice to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care.
Contract Length
Approximately 14 weeks
Key Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive patient assessments addressing physical, psychological, socio-cultural, spiritual, cognitive needs, and functional abilities.
- Plan and prioritize patient care based on assessments; evaluate progress and revise care plans accordingly.
- Demonstrate clinical competencies specific to the Operating Room.
- Assess patient and family learning needs; provide education and evaluate effectiveness.
- Address ethical issues in patient care; provide non-judgmental care respecting patient diversity and rights.
- Collaborate with physicians and multidisciplinary teams to plan, deliver, and evaluate patient care.
- Act as a patient advocate.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, patient safety, and quality initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in South Carolina
- Minimum of 1 year of Operating Room (OR) experience, with OR experience within the last year
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Experience
- Specialty: Operating Room Nursing (RN-OR)
- Years of experience: Minimum 1 year of recent OR experience
Work Environment & Physical Demands
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, crouching, stooping.
- Frequent lifting and moving of patients; intermittent lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling up to 50 lbs.
- Frequent use of hand/finger dexterity and reaching.
- Exposure to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, and communicable diseases.
- Work under stressful conditions, deadlines, irregular hours, including possible call, weekends, and holidays.

- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication skills.
- Ability to remain calm and effective in emergency situations.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, staff, and the public.
