Registered Nurse - MedSurg

Location: Goldsboro, North Carolina

Job Summary

Provides competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards. Responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care utilizing the nursing process in a hospital setting.

Essential Duties

• Participate in identifying and meeting own learning needs; attend education programs as needed.
• Use patient education materials relevant to the patient population with assistance.
• Assess readiness to learn of patients, families, and caregivers, including developmental levels and factors affecting learning.
• Identify expected patient outcomes and participate in revising plans of care with guidance.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to evaluate patient care and communicate relevant information to promote continuity of care.
• Demonstrate competence in caring for patients with complex problems, addressing physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety aspects.
• Perform bedside point of care testing as required.
• Follow healthcare organization and nursing standards, policies, and procedures.
• Organize and prioritize care according to patient and family needs.
• Consult appropriate resources timely for patients with complex care issues or high discharge planning risk.
• Develop professional growth goals with assistance and participate in unit goals and performance improvement activities.
• Use effective communication systems and promote cost-effective care.
• Provide feedback to co-workers and promote a safe, clean, and secure hospital environment.
• Recognize and synthesize complex assessment data to determine care priorities, including discharge needs.
• Develop relationships with families to support patient advocacy.
• Collaborate with patients and families to prepare or update care plans, considering cultural and ethnic issues.
• Prioritize tasks for patients with complex problems.
• Engage in research by reading relevant journals and contributing ideas for practice improvement.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
• Minimum of 2 years of MedSurg nursing experience, including experience within the last year
• At least 1 year of overall nursing experience
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) from an accredited school of nursing
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• Experience in an inpatient setting
• Inpatient infusion experience
