Radiation Therapist

Location: Manahawkin, New Jersey
Employment Type: Clinical-Allied
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

The Radiation Therapist is responsible for delivering ionizing radiation treatments to patients according to Radiation Oncologist prescriptions and simulation instructions. This role involves safe and effective execution of prescribed radiotherapy, assessment of images, and performance of diagnostic and interventional procedures.


Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver and monitor radiation treatment accurately.
  • Ensure clear and complete documentation.
  • Obtain and evaluate portal images; implement corrective measures as needed.
  • Perform treatment-related calculations.
  • Prepare treatment rooms and equipment.
  • Inform and instruct patients regarding equipment and procedures.
  • Ensure informed consent is obtained.
  • Transfer and position patients for treatment.
  • Simulate treatment portals using conventional and/or CT simulators for treatment field localization and verification.
  • Document setup instructions precisely (e.g., setup aides, treatment distance, field size, treatment depth, gantry/collimator angles).
  • Assess diagnostic studies for field placement evaluation.
  • Prepare and construct immobilization devices as necessary.
  • Place marks, tattoos, and landmark points for setup purposes.
  • Perform calculations for monitor units following Medical Physicist procedures.
  • Construct and mount individualized shielding blocks and lead cut-outs.
  • Prepare and apply individualized bolus.
  • Perform and record quality assurance procedures on treatment units, simulators, film processors, and accessories.
  • Maintain daily treatment schedules in coordination with patient transportation and care floors.
  • Maintain a clean, tidy, and functional work area; stock supplies and laundry.
  • Monitor equipment operation and report malfunctions.
  • Assess and respond to patients’ physical conditions and special needs; provide education and answer questions within professional scope.
  • Assist in teaching Radiation Therapy students during clinical rotations.
  • Lift and move a minimum of 25 lbs., and stand for at least 4 hours daily.
  • Adapt care to meet the needs of diverse patient populations, including considerations for age, culture, language, and disabilities.
  • Adhere to organizational standards and competencies.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Radiation Therapist license in New Jersey
  • Registered Radiation Therapist (ARRT) certification
  • Minimum of 1 year of Radiation Therapist experience, including experience within the last year
  • High school diploma or equivalent

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and push/pull at least 25 lbs.
  • Ability to stand for a minimum of 4 hours per day.
