Job Opportunity: Polysomno Technologist
Location: Urbana, Illinois
Employment Type: Clinical-Allied
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Document patient arrival, interactions, and consent for testing.
- Review and verify departmental orders and insurance/prior authorization.
- Review patient history and supporting documentation for medical necessity.
- Acquire and document additional information from patients or ordering providers as needed.
- Perform routine positive airway pressure (PAP) interface fitting, desensitization, and education.
- Prepare patients for testing according to policy, selecting appropriate equipment.
- Document routine observations during testing.
- Correlate physiologic data and behavioral observations to facilitate scoring and interpretation.
- Perform equipment and physiologic calibrations to ensure quality data; monitor data quality.
- Perform equipment cleaning and disinfection; ensure infection and quality control.
- Provide age-specific care for all populations seen in the Sleep Lab.
- Implement patient safety and sleep-related therapeutic interventions.
- Follow procedures to verify data integrity and completeness of test documentation.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships; communicate professionally.
- Assist in requesting and maintaining testing supplies; participate in routine department tasks.
- Demonstrate proficiency in distinguishing sleep states and identifying clinical events.
- Score sleep/wake stages and clinical events (respiratory, cardiac, limb movements, arousals) using professional guidelines.
- Generate accurate reports by tabulating sleep/wake and clinical event data.
- Support and participate in quality and performance improvement initiatives.
- Perform ancillary testing (oximetry, actigraphy, home sleep apnea testing).
- Follow procedural protocols for Multiple Sleep Latency (MSLT) and Maintenance of Wakefulness Testing (MWT).
- Participate in training and oversight of Polysomnographic Trainees and Technicians.
Required Qualifications
Education
- Associate’s Degree in Polysomnographic Technology OR completion of a certificate program in Polysomnographic Technology.
Experience
- Minimum 1+ years of experience in a Sleep Lab.
Certifications & Licensure
- Registered Sleep Technologist (RST)
- Certification from American Board of Sleep Medicine (ABSM)
- Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT)
- Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (American Heart Association)
Additional Information
- Proficiency in performing ancillary testing such as oximetry, actigraphy, and home sleep apnea testing is required.
- Experience scoring sleep/wake stages and clinical events is essential.
- No prior travel experience requirement specified.
