Surgical Technician 1

Location: Peoria, Illinois

Job Description

• Prepare for surgeon-specific operative and invasive procedures efficiently and accurately.
• Ensure instruments, equipment, and sutures are appropriate, complete, and functional.
• Set up sterile fields and organize case setups to allow smooth transitions.
• Use resources wisely and avoid unnecessary opening of supplies.
• Assist in simple to complex procedures across various specialties.
• Independently manage tasks such as “running mayo” and adapt to surgeon preferences.
• Confidently perform during routine and emergency procedures.
• Anticipate and provide necessary instruments and supplies to avoid distractions from the operative field.
• Perform roles including first scrub, first assist, and second scrub.
• Participate in case closing activities such as dressing application, patient transfer, and room turnover.
• Precept and mentor surgical techs, RNs, and students.
• Plan and respond to expected and unexpected intraoperative events calmly and effectively.
• Maintain patient privacy and promote a quiet environment during induction.
• Communicate and collaborate effectively with the surgical team.
• Participate in on-call hours including after-hours, weekends, and holidays, responding promptly as required.
• Foster teamwork, share knowledge, and assist others as needed.
• Handle counts timely and accurately in coordination with circulating RN.
• Demonstrate critical thinking and independent judgment in decision-making.

Required Qualifications

Experience

• Minimum 1 year of surgical technologist experience within the last year.

Education

• Associate's Degree in Surgical Technology
  OR
• Certificate of completion of a Surgical Technology program.

Certifications & Licensure

• Valid Surgical Technologist license in Illinois.
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
• State fingerprinting clearance (IDPH Fingerprinting).

Additional Information

• Must be available for assigned weekly, weekend, and holiday call shifts.
• Ability to adapt to assigned areas and assist team members as needed.
• Maintain professional communication appropriate to the clinical setting.
