Registered Nurse - Outpatient Surgery

Location: Edmond, Oklahoma
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

Under general supervision, provides nursing care to a variety of patients with health problems ranging from simple to complex in an outpatient surgery setting.

Essential Responsibilities

• Manage care for an assigned group of patients.
• Document patient responses to nursing interventions and prescribed treatments; note changes in physician orders.
• Assist physicians with patient examinations and minor diagnostic procedures.
• Obtain and monitor physiological data; observe patient conditions and intervene as necessary.
• Administer medications, initiate and monitor intravenous infusions and blood products.
• Deliver competent patient care.
• Communicate care plans to patients and families during hospital stay and at discharge.
• Inform patients and families about hospital procedures.
• Make referrals regarding patient care needs to appropriate personnel.
• Delegate tasks to support staff.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Education

• Associate of Science in Nursing or Associate Degree in Nursing from an accredited program.

Experience

• Minimum 1 year of outpatient surgery nursing experience within the last year, including pre-operative experience.

Licensure & Certifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
• Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.

Skills

• Knowledge of professional nursing theory, practices, techniques, and procedures related to outpatient surgery.
• Ability to organize, plan, coordinate, and evaluate nursing services.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to respond effectively to cultural and language needs of patients and visitors.
• Basic computer skills.
• Ability to maintain good working relationships with other employees.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or higher from a board-approved program.

Note: No prior travel experience is required for this position.
