Job Description
- Demonstrate understanding of cardiac, vascular, respiratory, and renal physiology and pathology.
- Assist with orientation and training of Cath Lab staff.
- Participate in special projects and relevant committees.
- Adhere to medical ethics principles related to the role.
- Thorough knowledge of ECG and related medical terminology, including recognition of lethal arrhythmias and ECG changes related to heart chamber enlargement and myocardial infarctions.
- Understand common cardiac pathologies, symptoms, and treatments.
- Knowledge of cardiac medications, their pharmacokinetics, indications, and dosages.
- Recognize and alert physicians to abnormalities in clinical lab values (Arterial Blood Gases, electrolytes, hemoglobin, BUN, creatinine).
- Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation and respond to full cardiac arrest situations per ACLS standards.
- Monitor diagnostic cardiac catheter procedures and intervene appropriately during lethal arrhythmias.
- Identify coronary anatomy in cine angiographic projections and cardiac pressure waveforms.
- Calculate hemodynamic parameters and record catheterization events.
- Prepare and set up supplies for diagnostic cardiac catheterization.
- Perform cardiac outputs, O2 saturations, and Activated Clotting Time (ACT) measurements.
- Monitor percutaneous interventions and differentiate between PTCA, directional, and mechanical rotation atherectomy.
- Understand extraction devices such as angiojet, rotoblator, and laser revascularization devices.
- Explain indications and complications of thrombolytic therapy for Acute MI.
- Identify benefits of intravascular ultrasound and Doppler velocimetry technologies.
- Describe indications for electrophysiologic testing, pacemaker implants, therapeutic ablation, and implantable cardioverter defibrillators.
- Operate Cath Lab fluoroscopy system components to ensure physician visibility during procedures.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Cath Lab Technologist, including experience within the last year.
- Experience as an Electrophysiology Technician.
- Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) or Registered Radiologic Technologist with Cardiac Interventional (CI) certification or Registered Radiologic Technologist with Vascular Interventional (VI) certification.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
Additional Information
- Must meet or exceed core customer service responsibilities including communication, ownership, motivation, sensitivity, teamwork, respect, and excellence.
- Must be self-directed, flexible, committed to teamwork, open to learning, and respectful of diversity.
- Physical demands include the ability to scrub in a sterile environment for extended periods, wear lead aprons weighing up to 5 lbs., and assist with lifting and moving patients and equipment with team support.
