Registered Nurse - Neuro Medical/Surgical
Location: Urbana, Illinois
Employment Type: Clinical Nursing
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Perform all nursing responsibilities specific to the Neuro Medical/Surgical unit.
- Implement procedures and theories related to neuro nursing care.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of nursing care.
- Complete initial patient assessments upon admission and develop individualized plans of care.
- Implement and modify plans of care based on continuous patient evaluation.
- Ensure patient and employee safety by identifying and addressing hazards.
- Communicate effectively with healthcare team members to resolve issues and promote collaboration.
- Provide constructive feedback to peers and pursue ongoing professional development.
- Receive bedside shift reports and ensure safe patient environments during shift changes.
- Delegate patient care tasks to healthcare team members and validate task completion.
- Perform basic RN patient care activities including assessments, vital sign interpretation, medication administration, admission/discharge processes, hourly rounding, care plan documentation, and patient education.
- Adhere to patient safety protocols such as fall precautions, pressure ulcer prevention, isolation precautions, and safe patient ambulation.
- Maintain a positive and professional attitude to foster a healthy work and healing environment.
- Respond promptly to patient call lights and medical needs.
- Use critical thinking and nursing judgment to identify and respond to changes in neurological status, including seizure activity.
- Provide competent care for patients with mild to severe brain injuries due to stroke, trauma, or surgery.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois
- Minimum of three (3) years of relevant nursing experience
- At least one (1) year of Med Surg experience within the last year
- Level 1 Trauma experience
- Neurology experience
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
Education
- Required: Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN)
- Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
