Job Opportunity: Special Procedures Technologist

Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

  • Perform special procedures under the supervision of certified radiologists following established protocols.
  • Assist radiologists during procedures and supervise student Radiologic Technologists.
  • Ensure patient care and safety during imaging procedures with age-appropriate care.
  • Obtain correct written orders and prepare patients for imaging procedures, including assisting with informed consent.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, radiologists, and healthcare team members.
  • Maintain accurate records, reports, and documentation related to procedures.
  • Adhere to radiation safety guidelines and regulatory standards (ALARA principles, OSHA, DHEC, FDA, TJC).
  • Participate in clinical education of students and support departmental goals and projects.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, confidentiality, flexibility, and teamwork.

Required Experience

  • Minimum 2 years as a Radiologic Technologist OR at least 1 year experience in Special Procedures/Vascular Interventional Radiology.

Required Education

  • Graduate of an accredited Allied Health Professional program.

Required Certifications & Licensure

  • South Carolina Radiation Quality Standard Association (SCRQSA) Radiographer Certification
  • ARRT Radiography (R) Certification
  • BLS certification through the American Heart Association

Preferred Certifications

  • Completion of an AART accredited Vascular Interventional Radiology Program
  • AART Vascular Interventional Radiology Certification

Skills & Knowledge

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to perform and teach Special Procedures exams to produce diagnostic-quality films.
  • Knowledge of relevant safety and regulatory standards.
  • Competence in operating special procedures and processing equipment.
  • Ability to use standard office equipment.

Additional Information

  • Must maintain strict confidentiality of patient and work-related information.
  • Professional appearance and mature demeanor required.
  • Must complete annual mandatory in-services and maintain current licensure.

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid Special Procedures Technologist license in South Carolina
  • Minimum 1 year of experience as a Special Procedures Technologist, with experience within the last year
  • Radiology Technologist experience
  • South Carolina Radiation Quality Standard Association (SCRQSA) Radiographer Certification
  • ARRT Radiography (R) Certification
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Knowledge of OSHA standards and regulations
  • Knowledge of DHEC standards and regulations
  • Knowledge of FDA standards and regulations
  • Knowledge of TJC standards and regulations
