Description
Respiratory Care Practitioner
Location: Urbana, Illinois
Employment Type: Clinical-Allied
Contract Length: 14 weeks
Job Description
- Disassemble, wash, rinse, dry, and package respiratory equipment.
- Evaluate patient respiratory care outcomes according to care plans.
- Serve as a role model demonstrating clinical judgment, technical skills, and knowledge in respiratory care.
- Prepare, test, and check respiratory therapy equipment for safe operation; report malfunctions.
- Maintain and process respiratory equipment.
- Accurately document respiratory care on flow sheets and care plans in the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Complete assessments on ventilator patients and others receiving respiratory care services.
- Recommend timely interventions and further treatment or referrals as needed.
- Record procedures, patient responses, and compliance with sleep therapy documentation; communicate adverse effects to respiratory care practitioners and physicians.
- Evaluate patients for routine respiratory therapy in inpatient units and the Emergency Room.
- Obtain and analyze arterial, venous, and capillary blood gases.
- Assist with cleaning respiratory care equipment and stocking supplies on inpatient units.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Respiratory Care Practitioner license in Illinois
- Illinois Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license
- Respiratory Care Practitioner with at least 1 year of experience, including experience within the last year
- Associate’s degree in Respiratory Therapy
- NBRC Certified Respiratory Therapist
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
