Description
Operating Room Technician
Location: Johnson City, New York
Employment Type: Clinical-Allied
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Under general direction, observes and practices sterile technique, maintains asepsis, anticipates and assists the surgeon as needed. Actively participates in patient care and safety. Utilizes OR supplies conservatively and operates as a team member of the OR staff.
Job Responsibilities
- Follow Infection Control policies and procedures; demonstrate expertise in surgical scrub technique.
- Adhere to principles of sterile technique preoperatively and intra-operatively.
- Assist the surgeon with gowning, gloving, draping, and passing instruments and other items during procedures. Anticipate surgeon’s needs for instruments, sutures, and equipment.
- Maintain an organized operative field, keeping instruments clean and properly placed.
- Keep accurate counts of sponges, tape, needles, dissectors, and instruments.
- Prepare for cases by assembling supplies and equipment according to preference cards; identify conflicts or problems.
- Care appropriately for instruments and supplies after each case.
- Provide a safe surgical environment by identifying potential hazards and assisting in preoperative equipment checks.
- Display knowledge of potential hazards (equipment, chemical, or gases) within the Operating Room.
- Utilize experienced OR staff as a resource and act as a resource for new OR personnel.
- Assist in suturing, retracting, and suctioning under surgeon’s direction.
- Handle and identify specimens per policy.
- Expedite efficient turnover of the OR between cases.
- Take rotating call duty.
- Perform additional responsibilities as requested.
Required Qualifications
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential from NBSTSA with a minimum of 1 year of experience, including experience within the last year.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- High school diploma or equivalent qualification.
- Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) Technologist experience.
