Registered Nurse - Medical-Surgical Stepdown
Location: Cincinnati, Ohio
Employment Type: Clinical Nursing

Job Description
Provide specialized nursing care to patients on a medical-surgical stepdown unit. Utilize knowledge from biological, physical, behavioral, social, and nursing sciences to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care. Care is culturally based and age-specific, adhering to the American Nursing Association (ANA) code of ethics and the Ohio Nurse Practice Act.
Unit Description
- 29-bed medical stepdown unit specializing in care for patients with acute myocardial infarction (MI), cardiac arrhythmias, cardiomyopathy, congestive heart failure (CHF), and other low-risk cardiac/chest pain diagnoses.
- Provides general medical services including cardiology, renal, endocrinology, general medicine, pulmonology, gastroenterology, and oncology.
- Staff receive special training in non-invasive positive pressure ventilation (Bi-PAP, C-PAP, A-PAP).
- Responsibilities include infusion therapy, transfusions, injections, and central line care.
- Patient care assistants support activities of daily living (ADLs), point-of-care glucose testing, and 12 Lead EKGs.
- The unit is a dedicated stroke unit; all RNs are NIH stroke scale certified.
Required Qualifications
Education
- Diploma of Nursing (required)
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
Licensure & Certifications
- Ohio RN License or Compact RN License
- BLS (American Heart Association)
- ACLS (American Heart Association)

- Demonstrated ability to provide age- and culturally-specific patient care and education.
- Effective communication skills with peers and maintenance of confidentiality.
