Occupational Therapist - Acute Therapy

Location: Urbana, Illinois
Employment Type: Clinical Allied Health
Shift: Day
Hours: 8 hours/day, 40 hours/week
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Summary

• Evaluate and treat patients of all ages in an acute therapy setting.
• Serve as a clinical resource and role model for staff and students.
• Design and adjust individualized plans of care integrating goals, treatment, outcomes, and discharge planning.
• Educate patients, families, caregivers, students, and healthcare providers using effective teaching methods.
• Perform patient transfers safely, using appropriate body mechanics.
• Use standardized outcome measures to assess functional performance.
• Collaborate with patients, families, and medical teams throughout rehabilitation.
• Supervise Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants (COTA) and rehabilitation technicians according to regulatory standards.
• Document evaluations, plans of care, treatment modifications, and patient responses in compliance with policies and regulations.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy
• Valid Occupational Therapist license in Illinois
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association

Experience

• No specific years of experience required or preferred stated.
• Prior travel experience is not indicated as required.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct examinations using reliable and valid methods relevant to patient complaints and history.
• Screen patients to determine therapy needs and effectiveness.
• Monitor and provide feedback to support personnel delivering care.
• Modify therapeutic approaches based on patient behavior and performance.
• Communicate clearly about patient status, transfer recommendations, discharge planning, and equipment needs.
