Occupational Therapist - Acute Therapy
Location: Urbana, Illinois
Employment Type: Clinical Allied Health
Shift: Day
Hours: 8 hours/day, 40 hours/week
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- Evaluate and treat patients of all ages in an acute therapy setting.
- Serve as a clinical resource and role model for staff and students.
- Design and adjust individualized plans of care integrating goals, treatment, outcomes, and discharge planning.
- Educate patients, families, caregivers, students, and healthcare providers using effective teaching methods.
- Perform patient transfers safely, using appropriate body mechanics.
- Use standardized outcome measures to assess functional performance.
- Collaborate with patients, families, and medical teams throughout rehabilitation.
- Supervise Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants (COTA) and rehabilitation technicians according to regulatory standards.
- Document evaluations, plans of care, treatment modifications, and patient responses in compliance with policies and regulations.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy
- Valid Occupational Therapist license in Illinois
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
Experience

- Conduct examinations using reliable and valid methods relevant to patient complaints and history.
- Screen patients to determine therapy needs and effectiveness.
- Monitor and provide feedback to support personnel delivering care.
- Modify therapeutic approaches based on patient behavior and performance.
- Communicate clearly about patient status, transfer recommendations, discharge planning, and equipment needs.
