Description
Registered Nurse - Ortho Inpatient
Location: Urbana, Illinois
Shift: Nights (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
The Registered Nurse (RN) provides professional nursing care to a group of patients during their shift, utilizing the nursing process, current nursing trends, technology, and resources. Responsibilities include:
- Performing all unit-specific duties within the scope of service
- Implementing procedures and theories related to orthopedic and medical/surgical nursing
- Maintaining accurate and up-to-date documentation of nursing care
- Completing initial patient assessments and developing individualized plans of care
- Implementing and modifying plans of care based on ongoing evaluation
- Ensuring patient and staff safety by identifying and addressing hazards
- Communicating effectively with healthcare team members and providing constructive feedback
- Identifying personal learning needs and pursuing professional development
- Fulfilling all departmental competency requirements
Department-Specific Functions
- Assess orthopedic and medical/surgical patients every shift
- Educate patients on wound care, mobility, self-care, medication management, and care transitions
- Coordinate care with physicians and surgeons
- Delegate and monitor interventions performed by healthcare team staff
- Set up and manage orthopedic traction and surgical traction devices
- Manage wound appliances such as wound vacs, drains, pouches, and other urological devices
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois
- Minimum 1 year of orthopedic nursing experience within the last year
- Experience working with Level 1 Trauma patients, including at least 6 months of Trauma Level 1 experience
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system

- Night shift hours: 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM
