Description
Registered Nurse (RN) - Travel Assignment
Location: Watonga, Oklahoma
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Days or nights, based on facility needs
Hours: 36 hours per week guaranteed (typically 36-48 hours/week), 12-hour shifts
Citizenship: U.S. citizenship required for clearance
Clearance: Requires ICE clearance (4-6 weeks processing time), including thorough background and credit investigation
Job Summary
The Registered Nurse (RN) provides comprehensive nursing care including:
- Executing licensed independent provider’s orders
- Dispensing and administering medications
- Assisting providers with examinations and treatments
- Applying nursing and supervisory techniques in the care and treatment of patients
- Performing technical/clinical procedures within scope of education and licensure
- Attending sick calls and preparing patients for examination
- Operating medication distribution and documentation
- Assessing new or ill patients and referring to emergency care as needed
- Performing emergency procedures and notifying providers for treatment orders
- Coordinating professional medical services with contract personnel
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor inpatient hospitalizations for early releases when appropriate
- Supervise and guide licensed vocational/practical nursing staff and non-licensed medical staff
- Maintain professional relationships with facility staff, nursing staff, contract providers, and outside agencies
- Use established policies and independent judgment in decision-making
- Evaluate medical service provision to prevent inappropriate use or duplication
- Maintain confidentiality and security of medical records
- Assist with medical file reviews to ensure documentation of services
- Monitor potential catastrophic illnesses closely
- Audit pharmacy use for formulary adherence and comply with pharmacy laws, especially controlled substances
- Observe and document patient behavior
- Inspect medical unit for contraband and manage supplies securely
- Provide health counseling and education individually or in groups
- Prepare and maintain various medical and operational records and reports
- Interpret medical, technical, legal, and regulatory documents
- Respond to lawsuits and attend court hearings as necessary
- Support accreditation processes by providing efficient and appropriate medical services
- Prepare and disseminate safety and accident reports; respond to serious incidents and emergencies
Required Qualifications
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of employment (Oklahoma)
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program (degree or diploma)
- Valid driver’s license
- Minimum 1 year of professional nursing experience
- Must be willing to work flexible shifts (days or nights)
- U.S. citizenship required for clearance process
Additional Information
- Candidates must have open availability for scheduling per client policy
- ICE clearance required before start; clearance process takes approximately 4-6 weeks
This position is ideal for RNs with at least one year of professional experience who are flexible with shifts and able to work in a correctional healthcare environment requiring security clearance.
