Job Description

• Provide professional nursing care to a group of patients using the nursing process.
• Perform patient assessments, develop and implement plans of care, and modify plans based on ongoing evaluation.
• Maintain accurate documentation of nursing care.
• Ensure patient and employee safety by identifying and addressing hazards.
• Communicate effectively with healthcare team members and provide constructive feedback to peers.
• Take initiative for professional development and fulfill departmental competencies.

Department-Specific Responsibilities

• Assess orthopedic and medical/surgical patients every shift.
• Educate patients on wound care, mobility, self-care, medication management, and care transitions.
• Coordinate care with physicians and surgeons.
• Delegate and monitor interventions performed by healthcare team staff.
• Set up orthopedic traction and manipulate surgical traction devices.
• Manage wound appliances including wound vacs, drains, pouches, and urological devices.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois
• Minimum 1 year of orthopedic nursing experience within the last year
• BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Education

• Required: Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN)
• Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
