Description
Registered Nurse – Intensive Care Unit (Cardiothoracic)
Location: Chapel Hill, North Carolina
Employment Type: Clinical Nursing
Shift: Nights
Hours: 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Provide competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards in a hospital setting. Responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care using the nursing process, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver care to patients with complex cardiothoracic conditions, addressing physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs.
- Perform bedside point-of-care testing as required.
- Organize and prioritize patient care based on individual and family needs.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to evaluate and revise patient care plans.
- Assess patient and family readiness to learn and provide appropriate education materials.
- Anticipate discharge needs and support patient and family advocacy.
- Participate in unit goals, performance improvement, and promote cost-effective care.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and secure environment.
- Engage in professional development and intra/interdepartmental collaboration.
- Stay informed about public policy and regulatory guidelines affecting healthcare.
- Utilize effective communication to promote continuity of care.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
- Minimum 1 year of Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) from an accredited school
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC)
