Description
Occupational Therapist (OT)
Location: Hattiesburg, Mississippi
Employment Type: Staffing - Supplier Sourced
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)
Shift: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:40 PM with a 30-minute lunch; one full weekend per month
Patient Load: Typically 7 patients per day
Team: 3 Occupational Therapists on staff, 1 Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (CoTA); OTs do not float
Job Description
- Implement physician's orders for Occupational Therapy services within an interdisciplinary environment.
- Provide care to pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients, utilizing knowledge of growth and development principles.
- Assess patient data to identify age-specific needs and develop appropriate care plans.
- Facilitate patient return to as independent and safe a lifestyle as possible.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of experience as an Occupational Therapist in an acute care setting.
- Ability to perform patient evaluations using appropriate functional tests and measures.
- Skilled in assimilating objective data with social factors, medical stability, activity restrictions, and comorbidities to determine functional deficits.
- Capable of constructing short-term, long-term, and patient/family goals with appropriate frequency and duration.
- Proficient in documentation within Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
- Critical thinking skills for patient evaluation and treatment planning.
- Knowledge of physical agent modalities such as moist heat and paraffin as applicable.
- Understanding of cardiopulmonary, musculoskeletal, nervous, and integumentary systems with age-specific care indicators.
- Ability to identify learning needs of patients and family members.
- Team-oriented approach to assist patients and families throughout the continuum of acute therapy care.
- Ability to interpret and follow physician’s orders and collaborate effectively with coworkers and leadership.
- Physical ability to lift, handle, push, and pull up to 50 pounds safely.
- Competent in operating equipment including blood pressure monitors, pulse oximetry, wheelchairs, walkers, and other assistive devices.
Physical and Environmental Demands
- Must tolerate physically demanding tasks including moving equipment and patients while adhering to safety measures for self and patients.
