Job Summary
- Provide radiologic technologist services specifically in invasive cardiology and invasive radiology procedures.
- Assist physicians during procedures in the Heart & Vascular Institute.
- Care for patients undergoing invasive cardiology or radiology studies.
- Perform duties under direct supervision of a physicist or dosimetrist.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer contrast material via existing IV line or by venipuncture; monitor and respond to allergic reactions.
- Verify patient identity, diagnosis, and treatment position.
- Compile relevant clinical information (labs, pathology).
- Assist with inventory and supply management.
- Educate and support patients regarding procedures, ensuring comfort, safety, and confidentiality.
- Accurately document procedures and communicate medication doses and counts to procedural nurses.
- Perform on-call duties and variable shifts as assigned.
- Maintain sterile field during procedures.
- Pull supplies needed for procedures.
Department-Specific Duties
- Administer and withhold contrast and treatments as appropriate.
- Assess patients for allergies.
- Perform peripheral vascular procedures, venous central line management, tube changes, embolization (venous and arterial), and venous thrombectomy.
- Experience with interventional neurology procedures preferred.
- Dialysis-related procedures including AV fistulas and catheter management.
- Tube access and changes (G-tube, cholecystostomy, nephrostomy, biliary, abscess, suprapubic catheter).
- Neuro procedures such as cerebral arterial/venous interventions and kyphoplasty are ideal.
Required Qualifications
Education
- Associate's Degree in a related field OR
- Certificate in Radiologic Technology
Certifications & Licensure
- Valid Interventional Radiology Technologist license in Illinois
- Radiography (R) (ARRT)
- Illinois IEMA Radiography License
- BLS (American Heart Association)
- ACLS (American Heart Association)
Experience & Skills
- Minimum of 1 year of experience as an Interventional Radiology Technologist, with experience within the last year
- Ability to work around and maintain a sterile field during procedures
