Registered Nurse (RN) - Med/Surg
Location: Urbana, Illinois
Employment Type: Clinical Nursing
Shift: Day
Hours: 12 hours per day, 36 hours per week
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
The Registered Nurse (RN) provides professional nursing care to a group of patients during a designated shift. Responsibilities include assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care using nursing processes and current standards. The RN collaborates with the healthcare team to ensure patient safety and quality care.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform all unit-specific nursing duties within scope of practice.
- Complete initial patient assessments and develop individualized care plans.
- Implement and modify nursing interventions based on ongoing patient evaluation.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of nursing care.
- Administer medications following the "5 Rights": right patient, medication, route, dose, and time.
- Ensure patient safety through fall precautions, pressure ulcer prevention, isolation protocols, and safe ambulation.
- Receive bedside shift reports including patient input and room safety validation.
- Delegate tasks to healthcare team members and verify completion.
- Conduct hourly rounding and patient education.
- Respond promptly to patient call lights and medical needs.
- Use critical thinking to identify and act on changes in patient condition.
- Facilitate efficient admission, discharge, and testing processes for observation patients.
- Promote a positive, healing work environment and effective interdisciplinary communication.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois
- Minimum 1 year of Med/Surg nursing experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree.

- Prior travel experience is not required.
