Histology Technician

Location: Detroit, Michigan
Employment Type: Staffing - Supplier Sourced
Contract Length: Approximately 14 weeks (96 days)


Job Summary

Perform routine histology techniques on surgical, autopsy, research, and neuropathology tissue under limited supervision. Operate and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment necessary for tissue analysis.


Key Responsibilities

  • Cut tissue samples using a rotary microtome.
  • Embed tissue samples for processing.
  • Stain, coverslip, and label tissue specimens.
  • Perform special stains under supervision following standardized procedures.
  • Maintain and operate laboratory equipment and instruments.
  • Mix and maintain solutions, including stains and special fixatives.
  • Record and maintain quality control (QC), CAP, and quality assurance (QA) documentation for instrument function and maintenance.
  • Manage inventory of reagents and supplies.
  • Follow Standard Work procedures and report deviations.
  • Participate in data collection and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Assist in onboarding by demonstrating work techniques as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Histology Technologist with 5 years of experience.
  • Recent Histology Technologist experience within the last year.
  • HT (Histotechnologist) or HTL (Histotechnologist, Lead) certification.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Education: Associate’s Degree with coursework in Anatomy, Biology, and/or Chemistry; or Bachelor’s Degree program in medical technology, medical laboratory sciences, clinical laboratory sciences, Chemistry, Microbiology, or Biology; or High School Diploma or G.E.D. with two years of relevant laboratory experience in a work, academic, or volunteer capacity.
