Job Description
- Assist cardiologists in performing invasive and diagnostic/interventional cardiac, vascular, and electrophysiologic (EP) procedures.
- Perform technical hemodynamic monitoring and interpretation using automated techniques.
- Set up and operate electrical/imaging equipment and computers related to procedures.
- Interpret hemodynamic and procedural results/outcomes.
- Operate monophasic and biphasic defibrillators.
- Communicate and educate patients during procedures to reduce anxiety and ensure focused care.
- Recognize and assist with anesthesia needs for sedated or anesthetized patients.
- Collaborate with healthcare team members and research coordinators.
- Direct team members as needed to ensure patient care standards and optimal outcomes.
- Train and mentor team members.
- Interact professionally with vendors to ensure safe and effective use of equipment and supplies.
- Maintain and troubleshoot equipment; ensure daily safety checks.
- Manage digital archiving of patient images and reports.
- Maintain aseptic technique; prepare sterile fields and instruments.
- Assist in passing sterile guidewires, catheters, and other devices.
- Accurately interpret EKGs and alert physicians to irregularities.
- Report significant observations and document care provided.
Required Qualifications
Experience
- Minimum 3 years of experience as a Cath Lab Technologist, including experience within the last year.
- Experience as an Electrophysiology Technician.
- Knowledge of the purpose and operation of equipment and supplies inherent in cardiac/vascular diagnostic and interventional procedures.
- Knowledge and competency in moderate sedation administration and policy protocol.
- Knowledge of electrophysiology (EP) concepts, theory, and the fluoroscopic anatomy and physiology involved in diagnostic and interventional EP procedures.
- Ability to recognize and assist in treatment of any complication arising from cardiac/vascular/EP diagnostic and interventional procedures.
- Extensive knowledge of use and function of supplies specific to cardiac/vascular diagnostic and interventional procedures.
- Advanced knowledge of EKG interpretation.
- Advanced knowledge of arrhythmia recognition, analysis, and interpretation.
- Knowledge of data analysis and interpretation specific to device implantation and function.
Education
- Associate’s Degree in a related field
OR - Certificate of completion from a Radiology Program
Certifications & Licensure
- Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA) License in Radiologic Technology
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) Registration in Radiology
