Description

Scrub Technician - South Carolina, Charleston

Job Summary

  • Provide safe patient care following professional and hospital standards.
  • Assist registered nurses in planning patient care and collaborate with health team members.
  • Support surgical procedures by performing scrubbing duties and maintaining asepsis (not acting as a surgical assistant).
  • Communicate patient information to appropriate personnel.
  • Account for all equipment and supplies used during patient care.
  • Serve as a clinical preceptor for scrubbing, following orientation guidelines.
  • Maintain cleanliness and proper care of the unit and surgical equipment.
  • Participate in performance improvement activities and support teamwork within the department.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

  • Frequent standing for long periods, walking, bending, crouching, stooping.
  • Frequent lifting/moving patients and carrying or pushing/pulling up to 50 lbs.
  • Frequent use of finger/hand dexterity and constant reaching/twisting motions.
  • Exposure to blood, body fluids, tissue, infectious materials, and blood-borne pathogens.
  • Moderate to high noise levels.
  • Work under stressful conditions, deadlines, irregular hours, including possible call, weekends, and holidays.

Shift Details

  • 12 weeks contract length.
  • 40 hours per week.
  • 8-hour day shifts: 06:30 AM to 03:00 PM.
  • Includes 2 weekday on-call shifts and every 3rd to 4th weekend on-call shift.

Required Qualifications

  • Knowledge of organizational policies and procedures related to patient care.
  • Understanding of safety hazards and precautions to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Corrected hearing and vision within normal range.
  • This position does not involve handling medications.

Additional Notes

  • Frequent interaction with patients, families, physicians, employees, and visitors.
  • Must consistently meet department customer service quality standards.
