Radiologic Technologist 2 - Heart & Vascular Institute Procedures (Interventional Radiology)

Job Summary

Provide specialized radiologic technology care for patients undergoing invasive cardiology and invasive radiology procedures within the Heart & Vascular Institute. Assist physicians during procedures and ensure patient safety, comfort, and confidentiality.

Key Responsibilities

• Administer contrast material via existing IV line or by performing venipuncture and IV placement; monitor and respond to allergic reactions.
• Assist with inventory and supply management.
• Verify patient identity, diagnosis, and treatment positioning.
• Compile relevant clinical information (labs, pathology).
• Instruct new staff as needed.
• Document procedures accurately and completely.
• Communicate correct doses of intra-procedural medications and maintain radiation and sponge/sharp counts.
• Perform on-call duties and variable shifts as assigned.
• Maintain sterile field during procedures and pull supplies as needed.

Department-Specific Duties:

• Administer and withhold contrast and treatments appropriately.
• Assess patients for allergies.
• Perform peripheral vascular procedures, venous central line management, tube changes, embolization (venous and arterial), venous thrombectomy.
• Experience with interventional neurology preferred.
• Manage dialysis-related procedures (AV fistulas, tunneled dialysis catheters, peritoneal dialysis catheters).
• Handle tube access and changes (G-tube, cholecystostomy, nephrostomy, biliary, abscess, suprapubic catheter).
• Neuro procedures (cerebral arterial/venous, kyphoplasty) are ideal.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Interventional Radiology Technologist license in Illinois
• Interventional Radiology Technologist with at least 1 year of experience, including experience within the last year
• BLS issued by the American Heart Association
• ACLS issued by the American Heart Association
• ARRT (R) certification
• Associate's degree in a related field or certificate in radiologic technology

Additional Information

• Work under direct supervision of a physicist or dosimetrist.
• Must be able to perform all essential functions of a Radiologic Technologist in this specialty.
• Prior travel experience is not specified or required.
