Job Summary
The Radiologic Technologist provides patient care specifically within invasive cardiology and invasive radiology procedures in the Heart & Vascular Institute. The technologist assists physicians during procedures and supports patient care throughout.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer contrast material via existing IV line or by performing venipuncture and IV placement, monitoring for allergic reactions.
- Assist with inventory and supply management.
- Verify patient and chart identification, diagnosis, and treatment positioning.
- Compile relevant clinical information such as lab and pathology data.
- Instruct new staff as needed.
- Document procedures accurately and completely.
- Explain procedures to patients and ensure their comfort, safety, and confidentiality.
- Inform procedural nurses of correct medication doses, radiation, and sponge/sharp counts.
- Perform on-call duties and variable shifts as assigned.
- Maintain sterile field during procedures.
- Pull supplies for procedures.
Department-Specific Duties
- Administer and withhold contrast and treatments as appropriate.
- Assess patients for allergies.
- Perform peripheral vascular procedures, venous central line management, tube changes, embolization (venous and arterial), and venous thrombectomy.
- Experience with interventional neurology procedures is preferred.
- Manage dialysis-related procedures including AV fistulas and various dialysis catheters.
- Handle tube access and changes (e.g., G-tube, cholecystostomy, nephrostomy, biliary, abscess, suprapubic catheter).
- Neuro procedures such as cerebral arterial/venous work and kyphoplasty are ideal.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Interventional Radiology Technologist license in Illinois
- Minimum of 1 year of Interventional Radiology Technologist experience, including experience within the last year
- BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification
- ARRT Radiography (R) certification
- Associate's Degree in a related field or Certificate in Radiologic Technology
- Radiology Technologist experience
