Description

Registered Nurse - Orthopedic Inpatient

Location

  • Urbana, Illinois

Employment Type

  • Clinical Nursing
  • Night Shift (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
  • 12-hour shifts, approximately 36 hours per week
  • Contract length: 13 weeks

Job Summary

Provide professional nursing care to orthopedic and medical-surgical patients using the nursing process. Responsible for patient assessment, care planning, implementation, and evaluation within the scope of orthopedic inpatient care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform initial and ongoing assessments of orthopedic and medical-surgical patients each shift.
  • Develop, implement, and modify individualized plans of care based on patient and family needs.
  • Educate patients on wound care, mobility, self-care, medication management, and care transitions.
  • Coordinate patient care with physicians and surgeons.
  • Delegate and monitor interventions performed by healthcare team staff.
  • Set up and manipulate orthopedic traction and surgical traction devices.
  • Manage wound appliances including wound vacs, drains, pouches, and other urological devices.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of nursing care.
  • Ensure patient and staff safety by identifying and addressing hazards.
  • Provide constructive feedback to peers and engage in professional development.
  • Fulfill all departmental competency requirements.
  • Complete any required annual education related to hip and knee replacement programs if applicable.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Illinois
  • Minimum 1 year of orthopedic nursing experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
