Registered Nurse - Orthopedic Inpatient
Location
- Urbana, Illinois
Employment Type

- Night Shift (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
- 12-hour shifts, approximately 36 hours per week
- Contract length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Provide professional nursing care to orthopedic and medical-surgical patients using the nursing process. Responsible for patient assessment, care planning, implementation, and evaluation within the scope of orthopedic inpatient care.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform initial and ongoing assessments of orthopedic and medical-surgical patients each shift.
- Develop, implement, and modify individualized plans of care based on patient and family needs.
- Educate patients on wound care, mobility, self-care, medication management, and care transitions.
- Coordinate patient care with physicians and surgeons.
- Delegate and monitor interventions performed by healthcare team staff.
- Set up and manipulate orthopedic traction and surgical traction devices.
- Manage wound appliances including wound vacs, drains, pouches, and other urological devices.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of nursing care.
- Ensure patient and staff safety by identifying and addressing hazards.
- Provide constructive feedback to peers and engage in professional development.
- Fulfill all departmental competency requirements.
- Complete any required annual education related to hip and knee replacement programs if applicable.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Illinois
- Minimum 1 year of orthopedic nursing experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
