Respiratory Therapist II
Location: Raleigh, North Carolina
Employment Type: Clinical-Allied
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Days (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each)
Hours per Week: 36
Job Summary
- Provide advanced respiratory care including airway management, mechanical ventilator management, oxygen therapy, aerosol therapy, and respiratory care procedures to assess, prevent, stabilize, or remedy respiratory dysfunction.
- Perform standard respiratory care such as aerosol medication delivery, bedside pulmonary function testing, breathing exercises, oxygen therapy, arterial punctures, tracheostomy care and changes, endotracheal intubations and extubations.
- May perform pulmonary function testing as needed.
- May transport pediatric and neonatal patients per protocol.
- May perform advanced procedures including UAC, UVC, IV insertion, intraosseous insertion, chest tube insertion, needle decompression, arterial blood gases (ABGs), and blood glucose monitoring as directed.
- May manage extracorporeal circulation for cardiac and respiratory support (ECMO).
- Provide ventilator care including setup, function verification, monitoring, and weaning techniques.
- Function independently with minimal supervision and serve as a resource to other staff.
- May be required to be on-call during days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
Required Qualifications
Education & Licensure
- Valid Respiratory Care Practitioner license in North Carolina.
- Graduation from an accredited Respiratory Therapy program.
Experience
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Respiratory Care Practitioner.
- Respiratory Care Practitioner experience within the last year.
- Experience working with adult patients.
Certifications
- Current Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certification by the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC).
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support).
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program).
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support).
- CPFT (Certified Pulmonary Function Technologist).
- Advanced Practice Certificate to administer moderate sedation in Bronchoscopy Lab.
- All certifications must be maintained as required by the certifying body.
Skills
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret clinical information and technical procedures.
- Ability to document clinical information accurately.
- Effective communication skills with patients, physicians, family members, and staff.
- Mathematical skills including fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.
- Strong reasoning ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to interpret a wide variety of technical situations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficiency with adult patients; no NICU experience required.
- Experience with EPIC electronic health record system preferred.
- Familiarity with SERVO U ventilators.
Additional Information
- Work schedule consists of three 12-hour day shifts per week.
- May require on-call availability including nights, weekends, and holidays.
