Surgical Technician

Work Schedule

  • Shift: 6:30 AM – 5:00 PM
  • 4 days per week
  • No call, no weekends, no holidays
  • Overtime available

Job Description

  • Provide technical assistance as a surgical (scrub) technician in operating rooms, labor and delivery, or other surgical procedure areas.
  • Prepare the operating room using Physician’s preference cards.
  • Set up sterile fields by opening instruments and supplies using sterile technique.
  • Perform surgical scrub prior to patient arrival.
  • Assist physician in draping the patient and preparing the operative field.
  • Preserve and correctly identify operative specimens for laboratory analysis.
  • Obtain and ensure proper functioning of special equipment (e.g., electrosurgical machines, diagnostic lights).
  • Assist the surgeon by manipulating instruments to improve efficiency and patient safety.
  • Monitor surgery progress and provide additional instruments or supplies as needed.
  • Recognize and correct breaks in sterile technique.
  • Participate in sponge, needle, and instrument counts as directed.
  • Clean and sterilize instruments, equipment, and operating room areas; dispose of soiled linen.
  • Assist in training other surgical technicians.
  • If assigned to Labor and Delivery, may perform clerical and direct patient care activities.

Required Qualifications

  • Surgical Technologist with at least 1 year of experience, including experience within the last year.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • Ophthalmology experience.
