Description
Registered Nurse - Surgical Specialty
Location: Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week
Unit Type: Medical/Surgical unit with mixed Stepdown (SD) and Acute Care (MS) patients
Patient Population:
- Post-surgical kidney, liver, and pancreas transplant patients
- Pre-transplant patients undergoing evaluation
- Patients requiring close monitoring for infection, rejection, and medication delivery
Job Description
- Provide nursing care to patients with a range of health problems from simple to complex under general supervision
- Assume responsibility for an assigned group of patients
- Document patient responses to nursing interventions and prescribed treatments
- Assist physicians with examinations and minor diagnostic procedures
- Obtain and monitor physiological data, intervening as necessary
- Administer medications, intravenous infusions, and blood products
- Deliver competent patient care and communicate care plans to patients and families
- Make referrals regarding patient care needs to appropriate personnel
- Delegate tasks to support staff
- May work on either Medical/Surgical or Stepdown patients depending on staffing and acuity
- This is NOT a Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) position
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing
- Minimum 1 year of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience within the last year
- Med/Surg nursing experience
- Associate of Science in Nursing or Associate Degree in Nursing from an accredited program
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or higher from a board-approved program
- Experience with ENT and/or transplant patients preferred
- Transplant experience preferred (kidney, liver, pancreas)
- Preceptor and charge nurse experience preferred
Additional Information
- The unit cares for both medical/surgical and stepdown patients, with nurses assigned based on availability and skill set
- ICU nurses may be floated to work on the stepdown patients depending on acuity
- Close monitoring and timely medication delivery are critical components of patient care on this unit
