Ultrasound Technologist

Location: North Bergen, New Jersey
Shift: Day
Hours: 40 hours per week (8 hours per day)
Schedule: Monday - Friday, no weekends, no holidays, no on-call, no float

Job Summary

Perform specialized diagnostic ultrasound procedures using high-frequency sound waves to assist medical personnel in detecting anatomical abnormalities, including masses, abscesses, and stones. Assist physicians with breast ultrasound-guided biopsies and other interventional procedures.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform routine and complex breast ultrasound exams, including Doppler techniques to assess vascularity.
• Prepare and position patients for diagnostic procedures, explaining the process clearly.
• Evaluate and optimize image quality by adjusting equipment settings (gain, depth, focus, TGC).
• Operate, calibrate, clean, and maintain ultrasound equipment and instruments.
• Archive and retrieve images using Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS).
• Assist physicians during ultrasound-guided breast biopsies and other interventions, ensuring sterile technique and patient care.
• Maintain records of procedures and patient data accurately.
• Provide technical assistance and instruction to students and medical residents.
• Adhere to safety, infection control, and emergency procedures.
• Lift a minimum of 25 lbs., push/pull 50 lbs., and stand for at least 6 hours daily.
• Greet patients using A.I.D.E.T. standards and deliver patient-centered care tailored to individual needs (age, culture, language, disabilities).
• Work scheduled shifts including holidays and weekends as required by department policy (note: this position does not require weekend or holiday work).

Required Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of experience as an Ultrasound Technologist, including experience within the last year
• Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) certification
• American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) certification
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Completion of two years of training in an allied health field or two years of college training
• Experience as a Breast Sonographer
• Proficiency with Image Archiving and Retrieval systems (PACS)

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift at least 25 lbs., push/pull 50 lbs., and stand for extended periods (minimum 6 hours per day)
• Adherence to organizational standards of behavior, attendance, and punctuality
