Work Schedule

• Day shift, 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM (10 hours per day, 40 hours per week)
• On-call 4 to 8 shifts per 4-week period, including weekday evenings and weekends
• On holiday weeks, the holiday is the scheduled day off to guarantee a 40-hour work week; any call shifts on holidays are 24 hours

Job Summary

• Functions as an integral part of the perioperative team assisting the surgeon
• May serve as first or second surgical technician or second circulator under RN supervision
• Applies aseptic principles to maintain a sterile environment
• Provides age-specific care to obstetrical patients as needed
• Assists with organization and coordination of supplies and equipment
• Maintains a safe environment adhering to safety and legal requirements
• Applies knowledge of normal and pathologic anatomy and physiology
• Performs scrubbing duties and preceptor responsibilities
• Assists with room turnover, supply ordering, inventory control, and supply chain management
• Collaborates with surgeons and OR team to prepare trays, instrumentation, and supplies
• Participates in Quality Assessment, Performance Improvement, and Infection Control activities
• Assists with patient positioning and surgical procedures including suctioning, tying, camera holding, retracting, and closure of all skin layers
• Primarily supports orthopedic surgeries
• Client credentialing required

Requirements/Qualifications

• Valid Surgical First Assistant license in Illinois
• Surgical First Assistant experience within the last year (minimum 1 year)
• Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA) through the National Commission for the Certification of Surgical Assistants (NCCSA)
• Certified First Assist
• Certified Surgical Technician (CST) or certification through NBSTSA
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA)
• Associate's Degree in Surgical Technology
