Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) - Contract
Location: New York, NY
Employment Type: Contract
Shift: 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday to Friday
Hours per Week: 40 hours
Contract Length: 9 weeks
Job Description
- Provide nursing care within the scope of supportive and restorative care under the direction of a Registered Nurse or licensed physician/dentist.
- Assist with activities of daily living.
- Administer medications and treatments, including suctioning and urinary catheterization.
- Prepare patients for surgery, diagnostic tests, treatments, and examinations.
- Collect, label, and process specimens accurately.
- Set up intravenous equipment and deliver solutions through peripheral access devices.
- Administer blood or blood products (requires special training).
- Report observations, treatments, medications, incidents, and accidents to the Registered Nurse and document appropriately.
- Contribute to nursing care plans in collaboration with nursing staff.
- Reinforce patient and family teaching as identified by the RN.
- Provide emotional support to patients and their families/significant others.
- Assist with patient rehabilitation according to the nursing care plan.
- Ensure patient physical comfort and safety.
- Participate in patient care conferences.
- Assist in emergency resuscitative procedures, including initiating emergency calls and performing Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS).
- Document nursing care delivered in the medical record.
Required Qualifications
- Completion of an educational program for licensure as an LPN.
- Successful completion of New York State Department of Health LPN IV Therapy Initial Program demonstrating competence in intravenous therapy and blood administration.
- Successful completion of annual unit-based review and update program related to intravenous therapy procedures.
- Current LPN license issued by the New York State Department of Health.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).
Skills and Competencies
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, interdisciplinary team environment.
- Competence in medication administration, phlebotomy, and patient intake.
- Strong communication skills for reporting and documentation.
- Ability to provide emotional support and reinforce patient/family education.
- Knowledge of emergency procedures including BCLS.
Experience
- No explicit years of experience required stated; however, demonstrated competence in IV therapy and blood administration is mandatory.
- Prior travel experience is not required.
