Registered Nurse - Ortho Inpatient

• 12-hour shifts, approximately 36 hours per week
• Contract length: 13 weeks

Job Description

• Provide professional nursing care to a group of patients using the nursing process and current nursing trends.
• Perform initial patient assessments upon admission and develop, implement, and modify individualized plans of care.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of nursing care.
• Ensure patient and employee safety by identifying and addressing hazards.
• Communicate effectively with healthcare team members and provide constructive feedback to peers.
• Fulfill all departmental competency requirements.

Department-Specific Responsibilities

• Assess orthopedic and medical/surgical patients every shift.
• Educate patients on wound care, mobility, self-care, medication management, and care transition needs.
• Coordinate care with physicians and surgeons.
• Delegate and monitor interventions performed by healthcare team staff.
• Set up orthopedic traction and manipulate surgical traction devices.
• Manage wound appliances such as wound vacs, drains, pouches, and other urological devices.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of relevant nursing experience.
• Illinois state RN license in good standing.
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
• Education: Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
