Description
Registered Nurse - Observation Unit
Location: Urbana, Illinois
Employment Type: Clinical Nursing
Shift: Day (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
Hours per Week: 36 hours
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Provide professional nursing care to a designated group of patients using the nursing process, current nursing trends, technology, and resources. Responsible for patient assessment, care planning, implementation, and evaluation within the scope of the observation unit.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform all unit-specific nursing duties and responsibilities.
- Conduct initial patient assessments upon admission and develop individualized plans of care.
- Implement and modify nursing interventions based on ongoing patient evaluation.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of nursing care.
- Assess IV sites every 4 hours and start new IVs per policy.
- Identify changes in patient status and respond appropriately.
- Promote patient and employee safety by reporting or correcting hazards.
- Communicate effectively with healthcare team members and provide constructive feedback to peers.
- Participate in at least 5 out of 6 staff meetings annually.
- Maintain documentation standards as evidenced by quarterly chart audits.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience working in a Direct Observation Unit (DOU) within the last year.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Experience working with Level 1 Trauma patients.
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system.
Education
- Required: Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN)
- Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
