Registered Nurse - Emergency Department (ED)

Location: Urbana, Illinois

Job Summary

Provide professional nursing care to a group of patients in the Emergency Department, utilizing nursing processes, current trends, technology, and resources. Responsible for patient assessment, developing and implementing care plans, maintaining accurate documentation, and ensuring patient and staff safety.

Essential Functions

• Perform all unit-specific nursing responsibilities within scope of service.
• Conduct initial patient assessments upon admission and develop appropriate care plans based on patient and family needs.
• Implement and modify nursing interventions and care plans through continuous evaluation.
• Maintain accurate, up-to-date documentation of nursing care.
• Promote patient and employee safety by identifying, reporting, and correcting hazards.
• Communicate effectively with healthcare team, patients, families, and visitors to support a healing environment.
• Provide constructive feedback to peers and engage in professional development.
• Fulfill all departmental competency requirements.

Department-Specific Functions

• Apply procedures and theories specific to Emergency Department nursing.
• Collaborate with providers, patients, and families in care planning and execution.
• Participate in safety initiatives and adhere to safety standards.

Schedule

• Night shift: 3:00 PM – 3:00 AM
• 36 hours per week (12-hour shifts)
• 2 call shifts per 6-week period (13-hour call shifts; must be onsite within 1 hour)
• 2-week night rotation required for all travelers
• No block scheduling

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois.
• Minimum 1 year of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience within the last year.
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required.
• Certifications:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by the American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) issued by AHA
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) issued by AHA
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system.

Preferred Qualifications

• Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC) highly preferred.
• Experience in a Trauma Level 2 or higher facility preferred.

• Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.
