Description
Radiation Therapist
Location: Detroit, Michigan
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM (40 hours/week)
Shift: Day shift
Work Environment:
- Normal office environment with minimal exposure to noise, dust, or extreme temperatures
- Potential exposure to radiation with strict adherence to safety procedures
- Frequent interaction with emotionally depressed and terminally/critically ill patients
- Physical demands include lifting patients, moving/pushing wheelchairs/stretchers, and lifting equipment up to 50 lbs
Job Responsibilities
- Review patient prescriptions to determine treatment type, location, and history of previous radiation
- Safely position patients using immobilization devices
- Operate treatment machines including linear accelerators and HDR units
- Administer ionizing radiation as prescribed by physicians
- Verify radiation prescriptions prior to treatment and confirm total radiation dose post-treatment in patient charts
- Document treatments and localize patient markings daily
- Perform ongoing imaging per departmental policy
- Assist patients with coordinating appointment times and referrals for counseling, transportation, or medical equipment needs
- Refer patients to nurses or physicians for further evaluation as needed
- Perform simulation duties and rotate through treatment areas as assigned
- Maintain cleanliness of therapy rooms and manage linen and medical supplies
- Adhere to departmental quality assurance policies (chart checks, timeouts, machine warm-up)
- Teach radiation therapy students according to their educational requirements
- Demonstrate teamwork, initiative, flexibility, and customer service values
- Accept and respect diversity without judgment and be open to new learning experiences
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Radiation Therapist, including experience within the last year
- A.R.R.T. Radiation Therapy Technology Certification (ARRT)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Experience with patient marking localization
Additional Information
- No on-call or weekend shifts
- Typically works with 1-2 other individuals per shift
- Must be self-directed and committed to team collaboration
