Description
Registered Nurse - Surgical Unit
Location: Urbana, Illinois
Employment Type: Clinical Nursing
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day (7:00 PM - 7:00 AM)
Hours per Week: 36 hours (12-hour shifts)
Job Summary
Provide professional nursing care to a group of patients in a surgical unit, utilizing the nursing process and current nursing practices. Deliver post-operative care for complex surgical patients, including management of tracheostomies, complex wounds (including wound vacs), and new ostomies. Collaborate with surgical and oral maxillofacial surgery residency teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform initial patient assessments and develop individualized plans of care based on patient and family needs.
- Implement and modify nursing interventions and patient care procedures as needed.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of nursing care.
- Ensure patient and staff safety by identifying and addressing hazards.
- Communicate effectively with healthcare team members and provide constructive feedback to peers.
- Identify personal learning needs and pursue professional development.
- Fulfill all departmental competency requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois
- Minimum 1 year of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience within the last year
- Medical-Surgical nursing experience
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing
- Experience working with Level 1 Trauma patients
- Experience with Epic electronic health records
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree.
Additional Information
- Work collaboratively with surgical residency teams.
- Provide education to patients and families regarding new ostomies.
