Cardiovascular Invasive Radiologic Technologist (Rad Tech 2)
Location: Peoria, Illinois
Employment Type: Clinical-Allied
Shift: Day
Hours: 10-hour shifts, approximately 40 hours per week (6:30 AM - 5:00 PM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Assist cardiologists in performing invasive and diagnostic/interventional cardiac, vascular, and electrophysiologic (EP) procedures. Responsibilities include technical hemodynamic monitoring and interpretation, operation of specialized imaging and electrical equipment, patient care during procedures, and collaboration with healthcare team members to ensure patient safety and optimal outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with invasive coronary, vascular, and EP diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
- Set up and operate electrical, imaging, and monitoring equipment, including monophasic and biphasic defibrillators.
- Interpret hemodynamic and procedural results.
- Prepare and maintain sterile fields; assist with passing sterile guidewires, catheters, and other devices using aseptic technique.
- Recognize and assist with anesthesia needs for sedated or anesthetized patients.
- Communicate effectively with patients to reduce anxiety and ensure focused care.
- Collaborate with research staff on laboratory-based projects.
- Train and mentor team members.
- Manage digital archiving of patient images and reports.
- Monitor equipment performance daily and report malfunctions promptly.
- Accurately interpret EKGs and alert physicians to irregularities.
- Advocate for patient needs and ensure adherence to policies, procedures, and standards of care.
Required Qualifications
Education
- Associate’s Degree in a related field OR
- Certificate of completion from a Radiology Program
Certifications & Licensure
- Illinois (IEMA) License in Radiologic Technology
- ARRT Registration in Radiology
- BLS (Basic Life Support) Certification
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) Certification
Experience & Skills
- Minimum 3 years of applicable experience in cardiovascular invasive radiologic technology.
- Knowledge of hemodynamic concepts, cardiac anatomy and physiology, and EP theory.
- Competency in moderate sedation administration and related protocols.
- Proficient in sterile technique, patient preparation, and procedural setup.
- Skilled in operation and safety of cardiac/vascular diagnostic and interventional equipment, including radiation safety.
- Advanced EKG interpretation and arrhythmia recognition skills.
- Ability to troubleshoot equipment and manage procedural supplies.
- Basic computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets, email, and web browsing.
- Multicultural sensitivity and excellent communication skills.
Work Environment
- Day shift with 10-hour shifts, typically 6:30 AM to 5:00 PM.
- Collaborative team environment requiring interaction with physicians, nurses, vendors, and other healthcare providers.
