- 8-hour shifts (typical start times between 6:45 AM and 7:30 AM)
- Hours: approximately 7:15 AM to 3:45 PM
Job Description
- Perform high-quality two-dimensional ultrasound studies of the heart and great vessels for adult patients.
- Provide technical assistance with exercise and non-exercise stress testing, including dobutamine and exercise stress echocardiograms.
- Assist cardiologists with transesophageal echocardiograms (TEE).
- Use M-Mode, color flow Doppler, pulsed and continuous-wave Doppler, and contrast echocardiography to assess cardiac function and abnormalities.
- Evaluate left and right ventricular systolic and diastolic functions and document wall motion abnormalities.
- Recognize congenital heart malformations, acquired pathologies, and outcomes of surgical procedures.
- Complete studies according to updated protocols and provide additional views, calculations, and measurements as needed.
- Correlate clinical history with exams and consult with cardiologists for clarification.
- Monitor, record, and document procedures using computerized systems.
- Participate in mobile echo/vascular services regionally and callback rotation.
- Perform functional, pharmacological cardiolite, and echocardiography stress testing.
- Assess patients’ physical ability to perform tests and interpret physician orders accurately.
- Provide thorough assessments in crisis situations and notify physicians as necessary.
- Demonstrate proficiency in recognizing lethal arrhythmias.
- Complete quarterly competency in stress lab, Holter monitoring, and event monitoring.
- Demonstrate proficiency in pediatric echocardiograms.
- Operate ultrasound equipment and select appropriate transducers for optimal imaging.
- Obtain, review, and document pertinent patient history and clinical data to facilitate diagnostics.
Required Qualifications
Education
- Associate's Degree in Ultrasound
Experience
- Minimum 3 years of applicable experience in echocardiography
Certifications & Licensure
- American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) OR Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) in Echocardiography
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification (American Heart Association)
Skills & Knowledge
- Knowledge of patient positioning, breathing techniques, and transducer positioning for optimal cardiac imaging
- Ability to recognize abnormalities in cardiac structure and function, distinguish normal from abnormal findings, and identify imaging artifacts
- Understanding of gross and sectional anatomy
- Proficient in using computers, software-driven testing machines, and digital archive systems
- Fluent in English (reading, writing, speaking, comprehension)
Additional Information
- Shift is Monday through Friday, daytime hours
- Participation in regional mobile echo/vascular services and callback rotation required
- Must demonstrate ability to troubleshoot and report equipment failures
- Must maintain monthly correlation studies and statistics
Summary
This position is ideal for an experienced Echo Tech with strong technical skills in cardiac ultrasound imaging, stress testing, and patient assessment. The role requires proficiency in multiple echocardiographic techniques, excellent communication with cardiologists, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced clinical environment.
