Description

Clinical Polysomnographic Technician

Location: Binghamton, New York
Employment Type: Clinical-Allied
Shift: Night
Hours: 40 hours/week (8 hours per day)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

  • Perform polysomnographic diagnostic testing with knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and sleep/wake pathology.
  • Ensure patient education, safety, and comfort; communicate effectively with patients and physicians.
  • Maintain vigilance in a non-stimulating environment and assimilate data from multiple sources.
  • Follow protocols to prevent patient harm and consult physicians as needed.
  • React calmly and quickly in emergencies while maintaining patient confidentiality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review patient charts and verify study orders.
  • Explain setup and testing protocols to patients/caregivers.
  • Set up patients according to policy and AASM guidelines.
  • Perform sleep studies, including titration and split-night studies, monitoring clinical and physiological events.
  • Wake patients when sufficient data is collected; carefully remove electrodes and assist with hygiene as needed.
  • Score studies per AASM scoring manual guidelines promptly; scoring takes priority over non-patient duties.
  • Complete monthly Inter Score Reliability assessments.
  • Notify medical staff of adverse patient changes or unusual situations during studies.
  • Assist in training new personnel.
  • Perform other assigned duties.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Polysomnographer license in New York
  • Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) certification
  • Minimum of 1 year of Polysomnographer experience, including experience within the last year
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in Sleep Medicine.
  • New York State licensed Respiratory Therapist.
