Registered Respiratory Therapist

Job Overview

  • Location: Brooklyn, New York
  • Setting: Acute care hospital
  • Schedule: Night shift, 3 days per week, every other weekend
  • Contract length: 13 weeks

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of an Associate degree
  • Valid Respiratory Therapist license in New York
  • Current NBRC credential
  • Current BLS certification
  • Respiratory Therapist experience within the last year
  • 1 year of Respiratory Therapist experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Respiratory Therapy or a related field
  • Experience in acute, chronic, and critical care for adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients
  • ACLS certification
  • NYFD G-71 certificate
  • Active membership in AARC and NYDART

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess patients and provide respiratory therapy treatments based on physician diagnosis and care instructions
  • Administer aerosolized medication, sputum inductions, and ventilator/BiPAP management
  • Monitor mechanically ventilated patients and make changes per department policy
  • Perform pulmonary function and sleep studies
  • Respond to emergency calls and assist with airway management and CPR
  • Inspect, test, maintain, and operate respiratory therapy equipment
  • Document patient treatment, response, and progress in the EMR
  • Educate patients and families on equipment use and self-care techniques
  • Participate in required in-service education programs

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged standing, reaching, and walking
  • Ability to stoop, bend, and lift or carry up to 25 pounds
