Unit 8th Floor Med/Tele Family Medicine Unit Notes Obtained by Ann Lane RN # beds 25 Beds Certs BLS prefer ACLS but not required testing requirements basic EKG exam and Pharm test Ratios at times may have 7 or even 8 but they try not to have this happen, very rarely does EMR Allscripts/ Pyxis Charge Nurse: Charge nurse and Clinical Nurse Manager also have ANCC who helps out on unit and will take patients Nurse Aides: PCT's do EKG and Blood draws also use CAN Weekend Requirement: every other weekend Tele: Central Tele monitor station with Tele Tech's nurses should feel comfortable reading basic strips Vents: no Hospitalist or Intensivist in house: residents and attending available 24/7 IV Team: PICC team but nurse needs to have good I.V skills and blood draws RT 24/7: yes Pharmacy 24/7: yes Floating: May be expected to float to all Med/Surg/Tele units Floor specific orientation: 1 to 2 days Common diagnosis / Types of patients: Med/Surg patients also many more Tele patients on this unit for example out of the 25 beds 22 beds may be on TELE Additional Notes: this unit is not quite as heavy as the other Med/Surg Tele units they work well as a team and staff is helpful and pleasant to work with and many resources available for help unit also has social workers , case manager and transitional nurse available
