Unit Specifics: 26-bed adult (age 18+) acute inpatient psychiatric unit. No private rooms; census generally runs 16-21 patients per day, average of 90–95 admissions per month. Length of stay (LOS) approximately 6.25 days. Most common diagnoses: Schizophrenia, Bipolar Disorder, Major Depressive Disorder; concurrent alcohol/substance use/abuse disorders prevalent as well. One seclusion room and restraint bed on unit. Electronic/clinical documentation system: Soarian/MAK. Paraprofessional staff: Mental Health Assistants (MHA). Expectations: Assessment and treatment of acutely decompensated psychiatric patients to include nursing assessment, medication administration, assistance with ADLs, health education, and providing a safe and therapeutic milieu/environment. Training for shift charge nurse responsibilities provided. Patient assignment load: From 0700 – 2300: 5-8 patients; from 2300 – 0700: 9-13 patients. 12 hour shifts available to include every other weekend (Saturday/Sunday); expectation to work every other holiday as recognized by Albany Medical Center; will utilize block scheduling as workload needs allow. No off unit floating expected. Current BLS required. Current certification of de-escalation education (CPI, etc.). Applicant must be cleared through background check with New York State Justice Center for People with Special Needs before acceptance.
