Job Title: ICU Registered Nurse (ICU RN)
Facility: CMC Main: Nursing
Shift: 12-Hour Night Shift (36 hours/week)
Start Date: December 29, 2025
Assignment Length: 13 weeks (through March 31, 2026)
Job Description:
Join our prestigious Level I Trauma Teaching Hospital, equipped with 874 licensed beds and recognized for excellence in patient care. As an ICU RN on the Resource Team, you'll provide critical care for a variety of patients, including those with stroke, heart failure, respiratory illnesses, surgical trauma, SCI, and more. You will work in a fast-paced environment that requires expertise in various high-acuity situations, utilizing advanced equipment and protocols. Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver exceptional nursing care to critically ill patients in a high-acuity ICU setting.
- Manage complex patient cases involving ventilators, vasoactive drips, insulin infusions, chest tubes, and other critical procedures.
- Perform comprehensive assessments, monitor patient statuses, and respond swiftly to emergencies.
- Administer medications including IV drips, blood products, and fluids while following strict protocols.
- Provide specialized procedures such as trach care, chest tube management, IV start, and NG placement.
- Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams including physicians, RTs, residents, and ancillary staff.
- Document patient care accurately in electronic medical records (EPIC) and ensure compliance with hospital policies.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Licenses & Certifications (Required):
- Registered Nurse (RN) License in the state of North Carolina
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
- NIH Stroke Scale certification (Resource Team requirement)
Experience & Skills:
- Minimum of 2 years of ICU experience, preferably in a Resource Team/critical care setting.
- Demonstrated proficiency in cardiac rhythm interpretation, ventilator management, and high-flow oxygen therapy.
- Comfort working with vasoactive drips, insulin, and other IV medications.
- Ability to handle diverse patient populations with complex diagnoses such as stroke, respiratory failure, trauma, and GI disorders.
- Skilled in advanced procedures including chest tubes, trach care, PCA pump management, and NG tube management.
- Strong assessment skills and the ability to respond effectively in high-pressure situations.
- Experience with EMR systems (EPIC) and hospital equipment such as IV pumps (Alaris) and monitors (Phillips).
Preferred Education & Experience:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or higher degree preferred.
- Experience working in Level I trauma centers or teaching hospitals highly desirable.
- Prior experience in high-acuity Stepdown or ICU units similar to a low acuity STICU.
Additional Requirements:
- Willingness to float within the South Charlotte region (Cabarrus, University City, Stanly, Central Division) as needed, with travel time compensated if floating mid-shift.
- Ability to work 4 shifts per week, every other weekend rotation, with no on-call requirement but working approximately 75% of holidays.
- Must wear navy scrubs and have reliable transportation—free parking available.
