Description
Job Title: RN - Med Surg / Tele
Facility: Advocate Southeast
Shift: 12-hour Day Shift - 36 hours per week
Start Date: 11/17/2025
Assignment Length: 13 weeks (through 02/14/2026)
Weekly Taxable Pay: $1,614.71
Weekly Stipend: $975.39
Certifications and Licenses:
- _Active _ BLS (Basic Life Support) required
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) preferred; traveler will be required to pass and demonstrate competency in EKG during onboarding
- Med Surg Certification a plus, but not mandatory
Job Description:
Join Advocate Southeast as a Registered Nurse (RN) in our Med Surg/Telemetry units, delivering exceptional patient care in a dynamic hospital environment. This role involves caring for diverse inpatient populations with diagnoses ranging from general medical-surgical conditions to telemetry monitoring. You will be responsible for executing patient assessments, administering medications, managing IV therapies, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure the highest level of patient safety and comfort.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct nursing care to adult patients in Med Surg and Telemetry units
- Monitor patient vitals and manage complex IV drips such as insulin and heparin
- Perform chest tube management, trach care, and PIV starts
- Utilize EMR (EPIC) for documentation and patient progress tracking
- Collaborate with support staff including CNAs, unit secretaries, and discharge nurses
- Assist with patient mobility, safety checks, and basic care activities
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies and safety standards
Qualifications & Experience:
- Minimum 2 years of recent RN experience in Med Surg or Telemetry units
- Ability to pass EKG competency exam during onboarding
- Skilled in managing chest tubes, trach care, PIVs, and blood glucose monitoring
- Experience with common drips such as insulin, heparin, and titrated medications
- Proficient in using hospital equipment including Alaris IV pumps, Philips monitors, and VS3 vital sign monitors

Preferred Education & Experience:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Recent experience in a Level 1 Trauma and Teaching hospital setting
- Certification in Med Surg nursing is advantageous
- Experience working with diverse patient populations and complex clinical cases
Additional Details:
- Support Staff: CNAs, unit secretaries (7a-11p), discharge nurses, resource nurses, RT, hospitalist, intensivist on-site 24/7
- Technology/Equipment: EPIC EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Philips monitors, VS3 vital sign monitors, Pyxis for medication dispensing, Nova glucose strips
- Floating Requirements: Will be required to float across all Med/Surg units as needed, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability
