Description
Job Title: RN - Med Surg / Tele
Facility: Advocate Southeast
Shift: 12-Hour Night Shift - 36 hours/week
Start Date: 11/17/2025
Assignment Length: 13.0 weeks
Facility Overview:
Located at 777 Hemlock St, Macon, GA 31201, Advocate Southeast is a prestigious teaching hospital with a level 1 trauma designation. The facility boasts 637 licensed beds, a Chest Pain Center, and a Stroke Center, providing comprehensive care across diverse patient populations.
Unit Information:
- Med Surg Units: Each housing 20-36 beds
- Patient Types: Med surg / Telemetry — caring for all inpatient med surg patients
- Patient Ratios:
- RN: 1:4-6
- LPN: 1:4-6
- CNA: up to 1:14
Certifications & Licenses:
- Active Georgia Registered Nurse License required
- BLS certification required
- ACLS certification preferred — must pass and demonstrate competency in EKG interpretation during onboarding
- Certification in med surg nursing is a plus
Qualifications & Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years of recent Med/Surg or Telemetry RN experience
- First-time travelers accepted with requisite skills and experience
- Technical skills include:
- Trach care and management
- Chest tube management
- PIV starts
- Glucometer use
- Management of common drips: Insulin, Heparin, and titratable medication drips (to HR)
Support Within the Department:
- CNA: Assists with vital signs, blood glucose checks, baths, bed changes, feeding, patient safety, walking, and turning patients
- Unit Secretary: Present on unit from 7 AM to 11 PM, with house-wide call responsibilities overnight
- Charge Nurse: Yes
- Phlebotomy: Performed by RN from CVLs; most patients have lab drawn by phlebotomy staff
- PICC Team & RT: PICC team available; RT services 24/7
- Hospitalists & Intensivists: Available 24/7 for patient management
- Resource Nurses: Discharge and float nurses available across units—providing valuable support and coverage
Technology & Equipment:
- Electronic Medical Records: EPIC
- IV Pumps: Alaris
- Medication Dispensing: Pyxis
- Monitoring Equipment: Phillips monitors and VS3 vital sign monitors
- Additional Equipment: Nova Glucose Strips, specialized unit-specific tools
Floating Expectations:
Travelers will serve in a float pool capacity, covering all Med/Surg and Telemetry units across the hospital as needed.
Orientation:
- 1 day of general hospital orientation plus
- 2 days focused on departmental protocols and procedures
Additional Details:
- Scrub Color: Navy (RN), Ciel Blue (LPN)

What You Bring:
- Active Georgia RN license and BLS certification
- ACLS preferred, with ability to demonstrate proficiency in EKG interpretation
- Minimum 2 years of recent Med/Surg/Telemetry RN experience
- Strong technical skills in trach, chest tube, PIV, and drip management
- Flexibility to float across multiple units and adapt to a busy, team-focused environment
- Excellent communication and patient care skills
Preferred Education & Experience:
- Associate or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ASN or BSN)
- Prior experience in a Level 1 trauma, teaching hospital setting
- Certification in Med Surg nursing is advantageous
