Certifications and Licenses (Mandatory):

  • New York State Registered Nurse (RN) license (Required)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) (Required)
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) is preferred but not mandatory.

Job Description:
Join Samaritan Medical Center as a dedicated Operating Room RN, providing exceptional peri-operative care in a fast-paced surgical environment. The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years of medical/surgical experience and be comfortable functioning independently in a dynamic setting. Responsibilities include assessing patient needs pre- and post-operatively, ensuring a safe and sterile environment, and collaborating effectively with the surgical team. Experienced RNs may be asked to serve as charge nurses and exercise leadership abilities to oversee peri-operative procedures.

Candidates without recent OR experience must participate in and pass the six-month Association of Operating Room Nursing (AORN) Perioperative Nursing Education Program. Successful completion, including passing the final exam, is a mandatory condition of employment.

The role demands strong clinical knowledge, excellent communication skills, and the ability to remain composed under pressure. You should be proficient in using typical clinical equipment and instrumentation used in OR/ASU settings, and possess lethal dysrhythmia interpretation skills. The position requires responding to on-call emergencies with a response time of within 30 minutes.

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-quality patient care throughout peri-operative phases.
  • Assess patient conditions and monitor progress, ensuring safety and comfort.
  • Maintain sterile field and adhere to safety protocols in the OR environment.
  • Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and nursing staff to execute surgical procedures efficiently.
  • Provide patient and family education regarding surgical processes and post-operative care.
  • May assume charge nurse duties, demonstrating leadership and delegation skills.
  • Respond promptly to on-call emergency situations.

  • Proven track record with at least 2 years of medical/surgical nursing experience.
  • Strong knowledge of nursing principles and surgical procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide patient-centered, compassionate care.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently under stressful conditions and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Leadership qualities with the capacity to prioritize and delegate tasks effectively.
  • Safety-conscious mindset with the ability to recognize and address hazards.
  • Competence in using clinical equipment and maintaining aseptic technique.
  • Lethal dysrhythmia interpretation skills.

Preferred Education & Experience:

  • Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing.
  • Previous peri-operative or operating room experience preferred but not mandatory if willing to complete the AORN Perioperative Nursing Education Program.
  • Leadership, charge nurse, or preceptorship experience is a plus.

Compensation:
Weekly taxable pay of $2,308.32
Weekly stipend of $1,246.00
