CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

  • RN License: Required
  • Certifications: BLS, NIH, ACLS, PALS Required; TNCC Preferred

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Valid RN license in the state of Illinois or eligible to practice there.
  • Minimum of 2 years of emergency department (ED) experience, demonstrating proficiency in managing high-acuity cases.
  • First-time traveler? Yes, we welcome your first adventure into travel nursing!
  • Strong clinical skills including IV insertion, cardiac rhythm interpretation, Foley and NGT placement, ventilator management (especially post-arrest), and knowledge of STEMI, CVA, and sepsis treatments.
  • Ability to perform medication titration with accuracy and confidence.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills to support a fast-paced, high-volume ED environment.

PREFERRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (ADN or BSN).
  • At least 2 years of recent ED nursing experience in a Level I or Level II trauma center.
  • Experience working with diverse patient populations from neonates to geriatrics, including pediatric care (10-12%).
  • Familiarity with EPIC charting system and related hospital equipment such as Alaris infusion pumps and Pyxis medication stations.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide high-quality, patient-centered emergency care to a diverse range of cases including chest pain, respiratory distress, strokes, sepsis, COVID, and trauma.
  • Collaborate with physicians, NPs, PAs, and support staff to effectively prioritize and manage patient care.
  • Maintain patient ratios of 1:4-5, including ED boarding patients, ensuring safety and efficient throughput.
  • Support and occasionally lead ED team operations, including acting as charge nurse when needed.
  • FNISHStrong IV skills, cardiac rhythm monitoring, ventilator management, and proficiency in STEMI/CVA/Sepsis protocols are essential.

SUPPORT AND EQUIPMENT

  • Dynamic team including ED nurses (1:4-5), designated RT available 24/7, unit secretary on day shift, mobility aides, and ED educators (Monday-Friday).
  • Charting using EPIC (preferred), with access to Alaris and Pyxis systems.
  • No floating required; orientation includes one shift of initial training plus 4 hours with a dedicated educator.
  • Support staff available to assist with lifts, documentation, and patient care.

WORK SCHEDULE & CONDITIONS

  • Schedule: 3 days/week, rotating between day shifts (0700-1900, 1100-2300), evening shifts (1500-0300), and night shifts (1900-0700).
  • Flexibility required; work 7 days a week as needed to meet staffing demands.
  • Schedules are provided 2 weeks in advance; shifts are assigned based on hospital needs with no fixed weekend pattern.
  • No on-call responsibilities; RTO requests via email to ED Night Manager.
  • Scrub color: Navy Blue.
  • Parking: Free.
