Job Summary and Qualifications

This position is responsible for the overall planning, development and oversight of the Trauma Injury Prevention and Education Programs for HCA Florida Lake Monroe Hospital (LMH). The objectives of this role are to (1) educate the community about primary and secondary injury prevention and trauma care; to indirectly decrease death and injury by improving awareness and understanding within the region, (2) To raise the visibility of LMH Trauma Center through public awareness by generating positive media coverage through community outreach and (3) coordinate and manage the Trauma Education Program assuring compliance with American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma Standards for a Level II Trauma Program, State of Florida Trauma Center Standards, Joint Commission standards, all state and federal regulations, corporate and hospital policies and procedures related to trauma.


What you will do in this role:

  • Development and implementation of trauma injury prevention programs in collaboration with the Trauma Program Director (TPD).
  • Responsible for collaborating, designing, planning, delivering, and evaluating a trauma-specific outreach and educational program that serves both LMH and the surrounding communities based on Trauma Registry statistical data and HCA/USF Trauma system data from both the Department of Health (DOH), Emergency Medical Services (EMS), National Trauma Database (NTDB), Center for Disease Control (CDC), along with other trauma data sources as appropriate for the Trauma program.
  • Collaborates within the department to develop and maintain departmental goals as outlined by the trauma strategic plan that is driven by the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma (ACS-COT) and Lake Monroe Hospital.
  • Organizes and runs the outreach program in collaboration with the Director of Trauma by disseminating awareness education both through events and educational material.
  • Develops and maintains community partnerships to meet the educational needs of groups at risk for injury.
  • Assists with the development and provision of organization-wide trauma educational opportunities for staff to increase their knowledge and skills related to the care of the injured patient.
  • Serve as a resource to nursing staff, pre-hospital personnel, and other outside personnel related to trauma care and injury prevention education.
  • Conducts community education programs for diverse populations and coordinates responses to requests for injury prevention information.
  • Develops and maintains a public presence for the trauma injury prevention program; acting as a spokesperson for LMH Trauma program in collaboration with the Director of the Trauma Program.
  • Develop brochures, audiovisual aids and presentation handouts.
  • Acts as a liaison to other hospitals and community groups related to trauma prevention and outreach.
  • Works collaboratively with the LMH Education Department and Marketing Department.
  • Responsible for orientation, in-service training and continuing education of all persons in the department.
  • Assists with the development and provision of Organization-wide educational opportunities for staff to learn knowledge and skills, investigate new approaches, and advance clinical competence.
  • Demonstrates principles of adult learning and incorporates them into formal and informal teaching activities.
  • Identifies, pursues and obtains sources of program support and/or grant funding.
  • Establishes and implements strategies for continuous improvement in both education and injury prevention.
  • Conducts research as appropriate in both trauma education and trauma injury prevention
  • Develops evaluation tools and program data tracking files for assessing progress in the community.
  • Reports at the TOPSC on injury prevention activities and outcomes monthly.
  • Maintains accurate records of all injury prevention activities, attendance and effectiveness of programs run.
  • Participates in local, regional, state and national injury prevention activities including conferences, seminars, professional organizations and interest groups.
  • Responsible for orientation, in-service training and continuing education of all persons involved in trauma care in collaboration with each unit-specific educator.
  • All other duties assigned.


** M-F some weekends from time to time. This job will be 80% out in our community

What qualifications you will need:

  • Currently licensed as a registered professional nurse in the state(s) of practice and/or has an active compact license, in accordance with law and regulation.
  • Basic Life Support (BCLS) within 30 Days
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Within 90 Days
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Within 90 Days
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) Within 90 Days
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course Lead/Instructor (TNCC) -6 Months
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) Within 90 Days
  • Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses (ATCN) - 6 months
