Clinical Laboratory Scientist / Histotechnician
Laboratory – Histology
Full Time
Evening Shift
Schedule: Monday – Friday | 2:00 PM – 10:00 PM
Salary Range: $63,386 – $120,685

Position Summary

Performs laboratory or histological procedures using both manual and automated techniques to produce accurate, high-quality diagnostic results. Ensures all testing meets regulatory, quality, and performance standards to support patient care and pathology review.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

For Clinical Laboratory Scientist:

• Performs laboratory testing following established pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic procedures
• Ensures accuracy and validity of test results, identifying abnormalities and taking corrective action when needed
• Maintains and documents quality control, calibrations, and preventative maintenance
• Follows procedures when test systems fall outside performance specifications
• Communicates and documents critical values to clinical teams within required turnaround times
• Participates in regulatory readiness (CAP, AABB, NYSDOH, Joint Commission)
• Supports validations, training, competency assessments, and audits
• Manages inventory including lot numbers, expiration dates, and QC requirements
• Documents and escalates issues impacting test performance

For Histotechnician:

• Performs tissue embedding, sectioning, and slide preparation per protocol
• Conducts routine H&E staining and evaluates slide quality prior to release
• Performs special stains and immunohistochemistry with proper controls
• Identifies inconsistencies and resolves issues before releasing slides
• Documents all staining runs and maintains quality standards

Education & Experience Requirements

Clinical Laboratory Scientist:

• Current NYS Clinical Laboratory Technologist License required
• Education in accordance with NYS Office of Professions and CLIA requirements
• ASCP Certification preferred

Histotechnician:

• NYS Clinical Laboratory Technician or Histotechnician License required
• Degree in Medical Technology or related science preferred
• Minimum 1 year of histology experience preferred
• ASCP Certification preferred
