REGISTERED RESPIRATORY THERAPIST (RRT)

Location: Albany, GA
Employment Type: Full-Time | Direct Hire

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) provides comprehensive respiratory care across adult, pediatric, and critical care settings. Therapists manage a high-volume, fast-paced workload while delivering safe, evidence-based respiratory treatments and advanced airway management. This role supports both floor and ICU patient populations and requires strong clinical judgment and comfort working with ventilated patients.

SHIFT DETAILS

  • Shift start times: 6:45 AM / 6:45 PM
    • Clock-in window: 6:38–6:46 (outside this window is considered late)
  • Team-based scheduling:
    • Monday–Thursday team or Friday–Sunday team
    • Assigned team and hours will be clearly noted in the job posting
  • Weekend coverage required per team structure
  • Holidays rotated with permanent staff (expect every other holiday)
  • No call required

WORKLOAD & UNIT DETAILS

  • Average workload: 550 minutes per shift
  • Average of 13–15 patients per shift
  • Treatments average 15 minutes each
  • ICU assignments may include up to 4 airways per therapist
  • Staffing averages:
    • Days: ~11 therapists
    • Nights: ~10–11 therapists (based on unit needs)

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform all respiratory therapy treatments including nebulizers, airway management, CPT, bedside PFTs, and ABG collection
  • Manage and monitor ventilators, BiPAP, CPAP, Vapotherm, and heated aerosol therapies
  • Provide respiratory support for ICU patients including ventilator management and blood gas interpretation
  • Participate in advanced ICU procedures including arterial line placement and intubation support
  • Perform bronchoscopy assistance and critical care respiratory interventions
  • Interpret ABGs, recognize critical values, and communicate findings promptly
  • Collaborate closely with physicians, nursing, and multidisciplinary teams
  • Utilize Meditech EMR for accurate clinical documentation
  • Support charge responsibilities when assigned as Charge RT or Clinical Coordinator

PATIENT POPULATIONS & DISEASE PROCESSES

  • Adult and pediatric patients (NICU therapists assigned separately under nursing leadership)
  • Common diagnoses include:
    • COPD
    • CHF
    • Pneumonia
    • Respiratory failure
    • ARDS
    • Oncology-related respiratory complications

EQUIPMENT & RESOURCES

  • Ventilators: Servo U and Servo I models
  • 24/7 in-house hospitalist or intensivist coverage (MDs or NPs)
  • 24/7 on-site pharmacy support
  • No floating required

ORIENTATION & TRAINING

  • Floor therapists:
    • Week 1: Hospital and EMR orientation
    • Gradual workload ramp-up (300 → 400 → 500 minutes)
  • ICU therapists:
    • Additional ICU-specific orientation week
  • Education provided for arterial line placement
  • Strong expectation of comfort with vent management and ABG interpretation

REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum 1 year experience for floor respiratory therapy
  • Minimum 2 years experience for critical care/ICU respiratory therapy
  • Must be able to work adult ICU and ventilated patients

CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSURE

  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
  • Georgia Respiratory Care License
  • BLS (Required)
  • ACLS & PALS (Required)
  • NRP required if assigned to NICU

DRESS CODE

  • Scrubs: Ceil blue only
  • Jackets: Ceil blue jackets only
